ANNUAL RMHC®/HACER® SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM CELEBRATED ITS 25TH ANNIVERSARY MILESTONE AWARDING $500,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS TO TWENTY-TWO HISPANIC HIGH-SCHOOL STUDENTS

Over $6 million awarded in scholarships to more than 1,000 Hispanic High School students since 1987

NEW YORK,- The Ronald McDonald House Charities® Hispanic American Commitment to Educational Resources® (RMHC®/HACER®), the annual scholarship program dedicated to assist and support Hispanic high-school seniors obtain a college degree, honored this year’s twenty-two scholarship recipients at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday, July 11, 2012. The 25th edition of the annual scholarship program awarded a record $500,000 in funds.

The RMHC/HACER scholarship, established by McDonald’s Hispanic Owner/Operators to provide opportunities for Hispanic youth as well as to encourage and promote civic responsibility in their communities, has awarded over $6 million in scholarships since its inception to more than 1,000 high-school seniors in the New York tri-state area.

This year, the number of student submissions doubled from last year’s 1,500 to more than 3,000. The twenty-two scholarship winners were chosen to be recognized for their educational accomplishments and commitment to the Hispanic community by the RMHC/HACER selection committee, comprised by Hispanic media outlets, community representatives, education professionals, and McDonald’s® Owner/Operators of the New York tri-state area.

“Every year, it’s exciting to meet the outstanding students and role models that were selected out of thousands of other applicants,” said Roberto Madan, Chairman of the local RMHC/HACER scholarship program and McDonald’s Owner/Operator. “The award ceremony is not just a celebration of the students’ hard work and milestone, but a rite of passage as they move closer to achieving their dreams of obtaining a college degree.”

To further celebrate this year’s scholarship recipients as well as the 25th anniversary of the program, the luncheon featured renowned actor Renoly Santiago as the MC and Grammy nominated Frankie Negrón.
